The Jump into Southern LiteratureBackwater Press is the Publisher of southern mainstream fiction. Work is shared in the form of Novels, Short Stories, and occasionally Poetry. It has been asked as to what makes a Southern Writer, or even a Southern story. The answer, given by those of the literary South, is a reply that is quick to respond to, but slow to explain. In Southern work, there are people we know from always seeing, or from not-knowing or seeing and feeling their influence. But the main portion of the answer is that Place is always a major character. Place is an unquenchable influence on readers, whether we are true enough to admit it or not. No matter where, or how active Place may be, it is always a major part of the winning or the losing, then the bouncing back no matter what can possibly happen. The South and Place is after rain-delayed picnics on Sunday afternoon and finding the smell of a just washed world, of crops washed, blown, and cleaned. It is clean and muffled roars, not unlike the ocean itself. It is things that are remembered on the corner on Saturday afternoon, and things that are church on Sunday morning. Plus there is walking on the beach and searching across the water for what still remains to be told — for God has things planned. The South is Southern Writing, is the beauty , truth, and purity of fiction. It is stories in Novels and in Short Stories, and Backwater Press brings them to you. |
